Know your linux distribution

lsb_release is a command which gives linux distribution related information of the current installation. For example the following command gives all description of the current installation

guest@debian:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description:    Debian GNU/Linux 4.0r7 (etch)
Release:        4.0r7
Codename:       etch
